Twitter Homepage Undergoes a Makeover

In the official blog post, Twitter announced about its homepage getting a makeover. This move is undertaken to make it more appealing so that more people sign up for a new account and active users interact more frequently. In Twitter homepage, new users can check out top tweets in various categories without registering or signing in.

The move could help Twitter gain new users. Also, Twitter tries to get passive users interact more frequently with its service. According to the company, about 288 million people logged into the service at least once a month in the fourth quarter and the number is expected to rise with this initiative.

Now, visitors will see two columns of photos labeled with category headings and clicking on a category will direct them to real-time tweets from users. The various categories included in Twitter homepage are Politics, Pop Artists and even Cute Animals and more. The tweets are drawn by Twitter from some of the popular Twitter account.

According to their blog post, “People who log in get the full experience: they can browse the complete catalog of public Tweets, Tweet themselves or engage with Tweets they see. Today, we’re making a big change for the many millions of people who visit every month who don’t log in, but still want to know what’s happening.”

This makeover is presently being enjoyed by US desktop users and will soon be brought for other countries, but no specific dates have been announced. The service is planning for a lot of improvements to make Twitter.com page informative as well as entertaining.
