Google Launches Test My Site, a Business-Friendly Tool

Meet Test My Site Tool

The need for a mobile-friendly website for any business cannot be overlooked. The site needs to be mobile responsive and at the same time should be quick to load. When a site loads slowly or users can’t find what they are looking for immediately, they are very likely to leave that particular website. The new tool is a part of ‘think with Google’ website where Google takes on fresh marketing. Test My Site is the place to go to find insights, trends in digital media and marketing.

Simple to Use

The best part of this tool is that it is simple to use for anyone and does not need any technical knowledge. You just need to type in your website address and the tool will score that website on three criteria. It has been designed to help web developers create better and more streamlined websites especially for the mobile.

Three Categories

The new tool called Test My Site analyzes the site in three categories: mobile friendliness, mobile speed and desktop speed. According to Google, Mobile Friendliness is the quality of experience customers have when they browse your website on their handset. Mobile Speed is how long it takes to load the website on mobile devices. Desktop Speed is how long it takes your site to load on desktop computers.

Scores and Recommendations

Each of these receives a score of 1-100 along with a link for ways to improve that store. When you click through to view more details, it will let you know what went into the score, with recommendations you should fix and what you consider fixing. Test My Site is the first tool by Google that tells you score about the mobile-friendliness of a website. The previous tool only said if the page is mobile-friendly or not.

Meant for Business Owners

As compared to Google’s page speed testing tool, it is an easier one to use. Also, it feels more approachable in terms of design and presentation of information. You can also choose to have a report sent to your email. This is useful for yourself as well as an excellent way to impress clients. This new tool is not going to replace PageSpeed Insights. The earlier tools by Google are aimed at developers and designers. But, the new testing tool is targeting the business owners themselves. It simplifies the user interface and shows scores as Good in green, Fair in yellow and Poor in red.
