Uber India Launches UberASSIST for differently-abled

On World Disability Day on December 3, Uber India has announced a new and interesting service called UberASSIST. The new service has been designed to provide special additional assistance to differently abled and elderly in safe way.

About UberASSIST

When users go for this option, they will get special drivers to address the needs of specially-abled people. Uber has collaborated with iCare Life to provide special training to their driver-partners. They will assist commuters with their accessibility needs such as folding and storing their wheelchairs, walkers and scooters for transport. The program will also train drivers on spotting visible and invisible disability needs. Also, they will be taught communication tips on asking the right questions.

How this new service works?

  • Download or open the Uber app
  • Now, in the promotions tab, enter code ASSISTDEL
  • Select UberASSIST option
  • Select the location to take the ride.

Purpose of UberASSIST

The drivers have been given extra training to help the differently abled. The focus is on sensitivity training and emphasis is on how and how much to help and to have a caring attitude.

While announcing this service, Gagan Bhatia, GM, Uber North India, said, “With uberASSIST, our driver-partners are extending that convenience to all riders with different accessibility needs to help them get around their city safely and conveniently.”

Availability and Pricing

The feature is currently rolling out in Delhi and will be rolled out to other cities across India. The cars are available at same rates as Uber X – minimum fare of Rs. 80, with base fare of Rs. 55 and Rs. 9 per kilometer and Re 1 per minute.

Prior to this, Uber has also announced its UberASSIST service in Singapore in October where it worked with Disabled People’s Association of Singapore to address the needs of riders with disabilities.
