Meet Microsoft’s New App Called Fetch!

fetch!

Microsoft has released a new app called Fetch! with an innovative and interesting concept for the iOS users. Fetch! is a product of Microsoft Garage, the company’s program to bring experimental projects to life.

About Fetch! App

“There was an interest in creating a framework that would allow you to take a domain – in our case, dogs – and recognise numerous classes, such as breeds. We were interested in enabling an app to allow you to make object recognition extraordinary, fun and surprising,” says Mitch Goldberg, a development director at Microsoft Research. “We wanted to bring artificial intelligence to the canine world,” Mitch Goldberg, a development director at Microsoft Research. We wanted to show that object recognition is something anyone could understand and interact with,” he added.

How does it Work?

The app allows you to take a picture of a dog or use one from your gallery to identify its breed. In addition to this, Fetch! features a very interesting feature. For example, when you click your image or any person and the app will tell you the type of canine you would be if you were a dog. Using machine learning, the app accurately identifies dog breeds. It also provides a rating of how strong it think the match is and also lists runner-up breeds.

Know Your Dog Breed

If the dog’s breed is unknown to the app, it will show a percentage of the closest breed. Tapping that percentage would lead to top five breeds that could be in a dog. The app takes an informed guess on what kind of dog you or your friends might be.

For Web Users

“This is the kind of app you’re going to take out when you’re with your friends,” its description reads. “You’ll make fun of each other, comparing which breeds you look like, and posting the tagged photos.”

It is also available for web users as well on what-dog.net. It is the latest silly viral sensation from Microsoft. What-dog.net is super simple. Upload an image from your computer or search online for an image. Then, it tells you what kind of dog breed the face looks like the most. Funny!

Wrapping Up

Released through the Microsoft Garage, Fetch! app demonstrates the potential of their researchers continued advances in artificial intelligence. This kind of image recognition is not only funny but also teaches machines to recognize images that could help blind users visualize a photo posted. Microsoft has also recently updated its Bing app with the purpose of enhancing its user base.
