How to Use Smart Lock in Android 5.0?

One of the most amazing features of Android 5.0 Lollipop is the Smart Lock, which is Google’s take on Trusted Devices. This is a feature that uses Bluetooth or NFC (or your face) to allow you to bypass secure lock screens. Android Smart Lock secures your phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device may be your wearable or a speaker or even a car.

With this handy feature of Smart Lock in Android 5.0 Lollipop, you can prevent your device from requiring a pin or pattern to unlock as long as it’s connected to Trusted Devices, Places or Faces.

Although it’s always good to use a security pattern or password on mobile device, but it can be annoying at times when you need to enter it every time to unlock your phone. This Smart Lock has made things easier for you. When there’s a trusted Bluetooth device in range, the security lock gets disabled. As long as the trusted device is in range of your smartphone, you will not require filling in the password or pattern.

Android 5.0 Lollipop lock screen displays richer notifications, and one can view and respond to messages from lock screen itself. With this new version, you can also view or dismiss any notifications without going out of the app or game you are using.

How to setup Smart Lock in Android?

1) Go to your device’s Settings> Personal> Security.
2) Here, you can add any trusted devices, places or face. You will be promoted to set up a password, PIN or pattern. You need this screen lock whenever you want to change Smart Lock Settings. Also, you need to enter this first time when you unlock the device on restarting it.
3) A Smart Lock notification will appear when the two devices are successfully paired. Whether it’s a Bluetooth or NFC device, you can choose the device that you want to pair.
4) You can turn the Smart Lock on, by navigating to Security Menu> Advanced> Trust Agent> Set Smart Lock to On.
