How to Lock Chrome with Password

We often save a number of passwords on the browser for quick access to our online accounts. When you save password, the browser automatically fills in during the login process. This feature comes really useful and handy when you login to multiple accounts on your Google Chrome. These passwords can be accessed from within the browser. But, the problem arises when you share a public computer or when someone gains access to your computer in your absence. It is always wise to protect the saved password from being seen by intruders. Here, we are discussing the steps to lock Chrome with password.

These are the steps to lock Chrome with password to avoid unwanted access to your browser:

1) Go to chrome://flags

2) Search for “Enable new profile management system”

3) There, you will see the blue link named “Enable”

4) At the end of the page, there is a button “Relaunch Now”. Click it to apply changes.

5) You will now see a drop-down button with your Google account name. Click this and click the lock icon to lock your Chrome with password. Please note here that the password is the same you use for your Google account.

From now on, every time Chrome is launched, it will ask for your Google account password that is linked to particular user profile it is launched. Also, users can browse as Guest and this will not reveal your profile saved passwords and settings.

Using Chrome Extension

If you want Chrome to automatically lock at the end of each session, you can go for chrome extensions such as LockPW. It lets you set a password to run the browser. It will lock Chrome with password to prevent unauthorized use of your browser.
