Nintendo said that it will launch the Switch which is a hybrid home console and handheld device. It is priced at $299.99 in the United States and will be available for purchase from March 3. The official pre-order announcement comes after retailers listed the console for pre-order. The quantities of Nintendo Switch will be limited in supply. It is releasing on March 3 in Europe, United States, Japan, Canada and some other territories.

Though Nintendo Switch looks like a whole new breed of console but fans of Nvidia Shield will find it a familiar one. The Switch uses a special dock to send signals to TV. Joy-Con controller is made up of two small palmable controllers, and each comes with a joystick and 4-button layout. The controllers include motion sensors and force feedback. One of the Joy-Con controllers has an infrared camera that can read hand gestures and sense distance. The right JoyCon has an NFC sensor for Amiibo usage and ensures that the smart toys continue on for another generation. The left JoyCon has a Capture button that will snag screenshots and later on it will be updated to grab video as well.

Nintendo Switch comes with 6.2-inch touch screen with a 720p display. This comes handy for menu navigation and makes it easy for mobile games to make their way to the device. Nintendo won’t let you play online without paying a monthly fee. The Switch has 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded via Micro SDXC cards. The battery life of the Nintendo Switch ranges from 2.5 to 6 hours on tablet, depending on the game.

Nintendo has partnered with many companies to provide a great selection of games for the Switch. These include Activision, EA, Sega, Konami and more. Super Mario Odyssey will release during holiday season of 2017. The highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be a launch title. Also, the company says that more than 80 third-party games are currently in development.

Retailers are starting taking pre-orders with Amazon joining and others sure to follow.
